HSU, Wen-Miao

Born in Taiwan, as both a doctor and a violinist, Wen-miao Hsu began violin lessons at the age of 6. He learns with Chih-Chang Hsueh in Taiwan and also with Mi-kyung Lee privately now. He attended masterclass and was deeply influenced by Ning Feng, Nai-yuan Hu, Ernst Kovacic, Silvia Marcovici, Mihaela Martin, Petru Munteanu, Igor Oistrakh, Viktor Pikayzen, Gérard Poulet, Ulf Wallin, Antje Weithaas, Wen-Sinn Yang, and so on.

He awarded the 3rd prize of Academy of Taiwan Strings' Competition in 2009, and the 1st prize of National Student Competition of MUSIC for several times.

With the great enthusiasm for music, Mr. Hsu has an extensive repertoire from Bach to contemporary music, such as Bartók, Berg, Ligeti and Szymanowski Violin Concertos.

During these years, the highlights of his performance were the premiere of the Finnish composer Tauno Marttinen’s “Sooloviulusonaatti”in Finland in 2014, and the concert in the memorial day of the canton of Valais in Switzerland in 2015.

In 2018, Mr. Hsu was selected by the audition of “TAG DER OFFENEN TÜR” and played with Sir Simon Rattle and musicians of Berliner Philharmoniker. This concert was internationally broadcasted by the Digital Concert Hall of Berliner Philharmoniker. In 2019, he was invited by World Civic Orchestra to be their guest concertmaster, performing in Alice Tully Hall, New York.  

As a soloist, he performed with Taipei Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Medical University Orchestra, Taipei Medical University Wind Orchestra, String Ensemble of the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, and Physician's Chamber Orchestra of Taiwan.

He has collaborated with several great conductors, such as Stanley Dodds, Sir Simon Rattle and Tamás Vásáry, and with famous instrumentalist, like Rainer Küchl, Lev Klychkov, Nigel Clayton, Timo Koskinen, Elena Nemtsova, Aimo Pagin and Louise Sibourd. For expanding the different music category, he also performed with Grammy Award nominated master percussionist Souhail Kaspar.

Mr. Hsu played in many famous concert halls all around the world, including Alice Tully Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, National Concert Hall (Taipei). Based on his great performance, the violin he plays is generously provided by Chi-Mei Culture Foundation.

The heavy loading from the job as a pediatrician in a clinic never stops Mr. Hsu keeping his scheduling of performing in concerts.
